The European University Faculty of Medicine Affiliate Professor Maia Mantskava’s cross-disciplinary project ‘Georgian Reality: The Sustainability of Scientific Research During the COVID-19 Pandemic’ which includes research organizations from Georgia, China, Bulgaria, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, institutions from medical sector and universities, was awarded an international status and received the highest score.
The project includes research in the following fields:
- 1.1 Mathematics (Applied Mathematics; Statistics and Probability);
- 1.2 Computer and Information Sciences (Computer Science);
- 1.6 Biology (Cell Biology, Microbiology; Virology; Biochemistry; Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; Biochemical research methods);
- 2.6 Medical Technology (Medical technology; Medical Laboratory Technology (including analysis of laboratory samples, diagnostic technologies)), biomaterials.
- 2.8 Environmental Biology (Environmental Biotechnologies);
- 3.1 Basic Medicine;
- 3.2. Clinical Medicine;
- 5.2 Economics and Business;
- 5.3 Education Sciences;
- 5.5 Law.
There are more than ten institutions, including European University involved in the project. Namely, in the field of education, project participants from the European University are Prof. Natia Jojua, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and in the areas of law and economics – Nino Taliashvili and Elene Jikia.
Prof. Maia Mantskava, who is a project manager, hopes that project-related data and conclusions will emphasize the necessity of sustainability of multidisciplinary research at the time of pandemics and other radical challenges.
Successful completion of the project will ensure forming of an international consortium where one of the leading institutions will be European University, sharing the principle of crystallization, integration of scientists in industrial and business sectors, internationalization and popularization of Georgian model on how to overcome the situation caused by COVID-19 as well as gaining international recognition.
